PSAT

The PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test.  In the most simple terms it is a practice SAT.  The SAT is one of two standardized tests that most colleges/universities require for admission.  The other test is the ACT.

Every October Cinnaminson High School provides the opportunity for 10th and 11th graders to take the PSAT/NMSQT during school hours free of charge.  This is a great opportunity for students to practice their test taking skills and get feedback on how they would score on the SAT.  Juniors also have the ability to qualify and compete for the National Merit Scholarship and other recognition through the College Board.

The PSAT/NMSQT provides valuable feedback to students and highlights their strengths and weaknesses.  In January, the high school counselors will meet with all 10th and 11th grade students in small groups to review their scores, access their tests online, and link their scores to Khan Academy for free personalized test prep.  While viewing their test online, students will be able to understand why their responses were correct or incorrect. Utilizing their PSAT results can be extremely helpful and can increase test performance when the time comes to take the official SAT test.

PSAT scores are released in December.  Students can access their test results at https://studentscores.collegeboard.org/home they become available.
