Promote Pirate Pride

As part of our ongoing dedication to promoting positive school culture at Cinnaminson High School, each month we will decide upon one attribute that will be our focus. Our plan is to encourage students AND staff to spend the entire month focusing on that one attribute. We will promote this in different ways by giving the students AND staff specific, yet simple, ways to model this behavior.
For the month of DECEMBER, the focus is COMPASSION. Compassion arises through empathy and is an essential part of everyday life. There are many ways to show compassion for others. Compassion is: an emotion coming from the heart; it is easing the suffering and pain of those around us; it is being open-minded and non-judgmental. It is ignoring differences and finding commonalities to relate to what someone else is going through. You can show compassion to a friend, fellow student, teacher or other staff members, and your family in these ways:

Be Empathetic
  • appreciate, understand, and accept other people’s emotions
Be Encouraging
  • praise and encourage others
  • Reinforce apologies and forgiveness
Be an Advocate
  • defend the rights of another person by helping them communicate their needs to the appropriate person
Be considerate and thoughtful
  • treat others as you wish to be treated
Be giving and caring
  • Volunteer at local soup kitchens, shelters, or any other charitable organization
  • Reach out to help someone in need, donate if you can

Please help us by encouraging your child(ren) to demonstrate these simple acts each month. We look forward to fostering a culture of Commitment, Honor, and Spirit at CHS!
Compassion with heart

Cultural Corner

Welcome to December, a month of celebrations for many and a change of seasons for all. As we enter winter and the days grow colder, there is no better time to shine a light on our community. Joy is an integral part of our equity work at CHS and the central theme for this year's activity.  Joy and gratitude are deeply entwined, sharing a symbiotic relationship. Growing joy for oneself can be a process over time, but the act of joy can more easily be received. As a unit, the student leaders with their faculty advisors continue to learn and grow in their journey of learning joy.

Student leaders continue to work towards ensuring a welcoming school community for all. Administration and staff alike are encouraged and inspired by our students' ideas and actions. The equity leadership team continues to meet and identify ways to support our students and their families, as we ensure the advancements made over the last five and 1/4 school years continue to thrive and prepare for future community initiatives.

Today, we prepare to show our gratitude by supporting the Athletes for Social Justice flag football tournament - One Game, One Goal, One Beloved Community. We continue building bridges of trust, opening doors of understanding, and mirrors of every identity until we reach the ultimate goal of building a Beloved Community in our school, our neighborhoods, and our world. We wish everyone a warm and wonderful winter break full of compassion, empathy, and love.

Anxiety Awareness Month

Anxiety Awareness Month

Studies show that three in ten students have an anxiety disorder by the age of 18.

Occasional anxiety is an expected part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, school work, and relationships.

If you worry your child may be struggling with anxiety, please contact their counselor for additional assistance.

Swimming

The swim team is looking forward to another great season. After graduating 10 seniors last year, there has been a large freshman class to replace them, along with upperclassmen joining the team this year. This year’s team hopes to repeat past success with several Meet of Champions qualifiers and a deep playoff run led by seniors Brett Hess and Sophia Rocks. The first meet will be against Pemberton at CCTS in Sicklerville on Friday, December 5th, at 4:45 PM.

Winter Track

The boys and girls winter track program is looking forward to an exciting 25-26 season. The team last year enjoyed taking advantage of being able to race at the new UPenn indoor track facility, and will be returning for even more meets this season. The boys' team finished 3rd at sectionals last season, and is looking to build on that success, as well as the girls team, looking to build on their 5th place sectional finish last year. The season will kick off on Thursday, December 16th, at the Cherokee Throwdown #1, and the track athletes will get their first taste of competition on the 20th at SJTCA #2 at UPenn’s Ott Center.

Girls Wrestling

The moment is here! We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Cinnaminson Girls Wrestling Team. These determined athletes are ready to compete and showcase their skills on the mat this season. Catch the Lady Pirates in their very first competition on December 18th at Pemberton.

Play Unified Basketball

Play Unified will begin its Varsity season in January with an 8-game schedule. Play Unified is a program that brings students with and without disabilities together to train, compete, and build meaningful friendships through inclusive sports. It celebrates teamwork, acceptance, and the idea that we are stronger when everyone plays together.

All physicals and registrations must be completed by January 5th in order to participate. If you would like to sign up or have any questions, please see Mrs. Rella or Mr. Digney.

Please come out and support your Play Unified Pirates this season!

Drumline

The CHS Indoor Drumline begins its 3rd year of competition on Saturday, February 21st at Millville High School. This year’s show is called “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” and is loosely based on the movie “Beetlejuice.” After going undefeated in the Scholastic Novice Division in 2024, the Drumline was promoted to the Scholastic Regional Division for the 2025 season, where they finished 6th out of 14 groups at the Tournament Indoor Association (TIA) Championships in Wildwood, NJ. The Drumline remains in the Regional Division for the 2026 season and hopes to earn its first TIA Championship banner!

Excused Absence/Lateness From School

If your child is absent or late to school, written verification to satisfy the requirements of the attendance policy must be submitted to the Attendance Office within two school days, by 8:00 AM on the third day, if the request of the absence is to be considered excused. This is a particular concern when calculating Winner’s Circle.

Drive Safe

For those driving children to and from school each morning, please ensure that you follow all posted speed limits and drive safely through the surrounding neighborhoods when driving to and from school each day. We are all responsible for ensuring all children arrive at their respective schools safely each morning.

Student Drop Off

Please remember that students are to be dropped off in the lane in front of the school only. Students are not to be dropped off in the parking lot. We want to make sure that students arrive at school as safely and efficiently as possible. Dropping off students in the parking lot increases the interactions between cars and students and delays the main drop-off line as more students need to cross the drop-off lane in the crosswalk.

Armed Forces Access to Student Infomation

ESEA Section 8528 outlines provisions that give military recruiters the same access to secondary school students as recruiters from postsecondary institutions or prospective employers (e.g., college fairs, job fairs) and, when requested, requires LEAs to provide students’ names, addresses, electronic mail addresses, and telephone numbers to military recruiters. Parents who do not wish the district to provide name, address, and email information with military recruiters must notify the school in writing. A sample opt-out letter is available at the following link:

Early Dismissal Procedures

For the safety of your children, we will be requiring that when a student is released from school on an Early Dismissal for any reason, any person (including the parent) picking up your child must present photo identification. As a reminder, we will only release your child to a parent/guardian or emergency contact. Again, this is for the safety of your children.

Parents/Guardians of all Athletes

Parents who are picking up your child/children after practice/games, please do not park and wait in the lane of traffic in front of the gymnasium. Please park in the parking lot and wait for your child. Parking in the lane of traffic causes safety issues on many levels. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Selective Services

All Young Men Who Are 18 Years Old, Or About To Turn 18: You are legally obligated to register with Selective Service. By registering, you add your name to a list of all men in the nation, 18-25. The list would be used to identify men for possible military service in case of a national emergency. You must also register with the Selective Service to receive Federal Student Aid for college. The law says that all 18-year-old men must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. You can register with the Selective Service in less than 2 minutes via the internet at www.sss.gov, or you can go to the Post Office and complete a registration form. You can also register online when filling out your FAFSA. It’s quick, easy, and the law.
