Promote Pirate Pride

As part of our ongoing dedication to promoting positive school culture at Cinnaminson High School, each month we focus upon one attribute of positive culture and encourage students AND staff to spend the entire month focusing on that one attribute. We promote this in different ways by giving the students AND staff specific, yet simple, ways to model this behavior.
In the month of DECEMBER, the focus was COMPASSION.

For the month of JANUARY, the focus is INTEGRITY. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times and in all circumstances, whether or not anyone is watching. It takes having the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be. Building a reputation of integrity takes years, but it takes only a second to lose, so never allow yourself to ever do anything that would damage your integrity. “Do what is right; let the consequence follow.”
Some characteristics that demonstrate Integrity:
  • Be honest and practice ethical behavior in your interactions with others
  • Be a role model
  • Share recognition with others
  • Be a team player
  • Stand up for what you believe in
  • Develop a positive attitude when facing objections
  • Encourage and support others to speak up and voice their viewpoints

Please help us by encouraging your child(ren) to demonstrate these simple acts each month. We look forward to fostering a culture of Commitment, Honor, and Spirit at CHS!

Cultural Corner

January represents bright beginnings, responsible reflection, and winter weather. Students and staff return to the winter quarter of the 2026 school year fresh and ready to pick up where they left off in December. Athletes for Social Justice hosted our second-quarter closing activity: a flag football game. The members of A4SJ are dedicated to creating an inclusive community of student-athletes by raising awareness, inspiring change, and advocating for social justice. The game kicked off Thanksgiving Eve at the close of the school day. With generous sponsorship from the Cinnaminson Education Association and the time of many student and staff volunteers, our township hosted a day of sports and school community in an intentionally welcoming space. We closed our work in 2025 with the Affinity reader leaders visiting the 4th grade for a reading lesson focused on Native American culture.

The staff equity committee finalizes planning winter, spring, and summer activities. We look forward to the fantastic student-driven events and programs for the remainder of the school year. Affinity leaders continue their once-monthly training sessions and weekly share-outs in their Monday homeroom. Student Affinity groups meet twice a month. Each group has its own identity, and participation is voluntary. Almost every group has seen new members this year. With the partnership of the NJEA PEP and Fast grants, the high school will be hosting a few community/school events. Please keep an eye out for invitations to our community events as we head into a busy season of celebrating heritage month and culture sharing.

As always, do not hesitate to email the CHS Equity Committee chairs with any comments or questions.

Sending you warm winter wishes,

January

In the United States January is Braille Literacy Month and January 4th is recognized internationally as World Braille Day to honor the birthday of Louis Braille, the inventor of the code. While hearing the word “braille” many often think of people who are blind. However, braille is beneficial to many individuals with visual impairments, including those with dual sensory loss and/or multiple disabilities.

Fun Facts
(Source: New England Consortium on Deafblindness - Perkins School for the Blind © 2021)

  1. Louis Braille was 15-years-old when he invented braille.
  2. Braille is a tactile code, not a language. In fact many languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic can be written and read in braille.
  3. A braille cell is made up of 6 raised dots.
  4. Every letter, number, punctuation, and symbol can be written in braille (including musical notes)! Braille can also change the typographical emphasis of a word or sentence (bold, italics, etc.)

check mark on page

Excused Absence/Lateness From School

If your child is absent or late to school, written verification to satisfy the requirements of the attendance policy must be submitted to the Attendance Office within two school days, by 8:00 AM on the third day, if the request of the absence is to be considered excused. This is a particular concern when calculating Winner’s Circle.

Drive Safe

For those driving children to and from school each morning, please ensure that you follow all posted speed limits and drive safely through the surrounding neighborhoods when driving to and from school each day. We all are responsible for ensuring all children arrive at their respective schools safely each morning.

Student Drop Off

Please remember that students are to be dropped off in the lane in front of the school only. Students are not to be dropped off in the parking lot. We want to make sure that students arrive at school as safely and efficiently as possible. Dropping off students in the parking lot increases the interactions between cars and students and delays the main drop-off line as more students need to cross the drop-off lane in the crosswalk

Armed Forces Access to Student Infomation

ESEA Section 8528 outlines provisions that give military recruiters the same access to secondary school students as recruiters from postsecondary institutions or prospective employers (e.g., college fairs, job fairs) and, when requested, requires LEAs to provide students’ names, addresses, electronic mail addresses, and telephone numbers to military recruiters. Parents who do not wish the district to provide name, address, and email information with military recruiters must notify the school in writing. A sample opt-out letter is available at the following link:

post it note on wall

Early Dismissal Procedures

For the safety of your children, we will be requiring that when a student is released from school on an Early Dismissal for any reason, any person (including the parent) picking up your child must present photo identification. As a reminder, we will only release your child to a parent/guardian or emergency contact. Again, this is for the safety of your children.

Parents/Guardians of all Athletes

Parents who are picking up your child/children after practice/games, please do not park and wait in the lane of traffic in front of the gymnasium. Please park in the parking lot and wait for your child. Parking in the lane of traffic causes safety issues on many levels. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

You can register with Selective Service in less than 2 minutes via the internet at: www.sss.gov, or you can go to the Post Office and complete a registration form. You can also register online when filling out your FASFA. It’s quick, easy and the law.
